New feature onboarding: Investment analysis tool
#UX Writing #FinTech
Situation
Many investors struggle to determine optimal time for buying and selling assets. To make informed decisions, they can rely on technical analysis, which studies price movements on charts to predict trends.

A key component of technical analysis is chart patterns — recurring shapes that appear on price charts. When analyzed correctly, these patterns can help predict future price movements, enabling investors to minimize losses and maximize profits.

However, recognizing and interpreting chart patterns can be challenging for new investors and time-consuming for experienced ones.

To address this, our product teams created a dedicated section in the app where users can explore pre-identified patterns and instantly copy them to their own charts. This section features a growing collection of technical analysis posts — some written by our expert analysts, and others generated by our AI model, which automatically detects dozens of chart patterns across various timeframes with high precision.
Task
Our goal was to design an onboarding experience that introduces users to the chart patterns section in the app. This onboarding needed to explain what chart patterns are, how to use them, and how users can benefit from them.
Action
We designed two entry points for onboarding to ensure maximum visibility: a hint and a pop-up.
Tapping either the hint or the pop-up takes a user directly to the chart patterns section, allowing them to explore and use the feature immediately. Since our AI model generates patterns frequently, there’s little chance that a user will see nothing when tapping the hint and proceeding to the section.
By tapping “Learn More,” a bottom sheet opens that explains what chart patterns are, how they work, and how users can interact with detected patterns, including options to copy them to their chart, adjust and refine them, and customize their appearance.
Result
The onboarding experience played a key role in driving adoption of the feature. A/B testing indicated that users who engaged with it showed a measurable increase in investment activity (investing higher amounts), which in turn led to a meaningful uplift in annual earnings.
